Adam Afromsky Playing Soccer
Resource: AdamsHeart.org

On May 12, 2012, 14-year old Adam Afromsky was playing  soccer with his team for the state championship when he collapsed on the field.  An off duty ER doctor quickly came over and recognized the signs of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.  Emergency assistance (911) was called and CPR was performed for 5 minutes until EMS crews arrived.  Upon their arrival, the paramedics shocked Adam with an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to restart his heart.  Adam was immediately transported to the hospital for emergency care; this is where he came under the care of Dr. Vincent Thomas of the Children’s Heart Center.

Adam is doing great today and living an active and busy life.  He made a full recovery, making Adam one of the lucky ones.  From this incident,  AdamsHeart.org was created.  The mission of Adam’s Heart is to increase the availability of AED’s at all sporting fields, encourage youth organization coaches to become CPR and AED trained and to raise public awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

After being approached by the Adam’s Heart team, the City of Henderson has launched an AED loan program.  The Henderson Fire Department, in conjunction with Henderson Parks and Recreation, are partnering to provide AEDs at no cost for use at public gatherings and sporting events.  An event organizer, coach or participant may request an AED when reserving a City of Henderson facility at least three weeks prior to their scheduled public event.
